12 charges against Telegram CEO Pavel Durov include "providing cryptology services aiming to ensure confidentiality without certified declaration" and six counts of "complicity" with alleged criminal activity by Telegram users

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov is facing serious legal troubles in France, as Paris Public Prosecutor Laure Beccuau recently announced a comprehensive list of 12 charges against him.

These charges include his alleged involvement in child pornography distribution, drug-related crimes, organized fraud, and money laundering.

Durov is also accused of obstructing lawful interception requests and facilitating the distribution of cybercrime tools.

The investigation, which began on July 8, 2024, is being jointly conducted by France's cybercrime and anti-fraud agencies, highlighting the complexity of the case. Durov's detention has been extended for up to 96 hours, allowing more time for interrogation and evidence collection.

This development has sparked debates in the tech industry regarding platform accountability, content moderation, and the balance between user privacy and law enforcement.
