A Sealdah court in Kolkata criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for delays in the bail hearing of Sanjay Roy, the main suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On Friday, Judge Pamela Gupta expressed frustration due to the absence of the CBI’s public prosecutor and investigating officer, which led to a delayed hearing. The judge questioned whether the accused should be granted bail because of the CBI’s failure to appear on time.
When the CBI lawyer eventually arrived, he opposed Roy’s bail, arguing that it could hinder the investigation.
Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10 and remains in custody until September 20.
His defense lawyer argued for bail, citing a lack of evidence presented by the CBI. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticized the CBI, with MP Saket Gokhale accusing the agency of attempting to release Roy and questioning their absence from the court.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to review the case on September 9.
