A court in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh has punished a woman for filing a false case of rape. He imposed a jail sentence of four and a half years and a hefty fine for wasting the court's time and ruining the man's life. The judge criticized such actions, highlighting the harm they cause to innocent people and the justice system.
The Context:
Earlier, in 2019, a teenage girl's mother had accused her daughter's friend Ajay of kidnapping and rape. Ajay remained in jail for many years on the basis of this charge. However, during the trial the girl retracted her statement, proving the allegations to be false.

“During the trial, the woman retracted her earlier statement during cross-examination. She denied that the young man had kidnapped and raped her. Then he was arrested and sent to jail.” , Government Advocate Sunil Pandey
The court gave a historic verdict accepting the injustice. The woman suffered the same prison sentence as Ajay had and was ordered to compensate him for lost wages while he was in prison.
