A Florida mother has filed a lawsuit against

Character.AI claiming that the company’s chatbot led her 14-year-old son to take his own life.

The lawsuit states that the boy formed an intense emotional attachment to the chatbot, which contributed to his death in February. The mother, Megan Garcia, accuses the company of negligence, wrongful death, and deceptive trade practices.

According to the lawsuit, her son’s attachment to an AI chatbot modeled after a fictional character led him to become increasingly isolated, eventually resulting in his tragic decision.

Character.AI has responded, expressing sorrow over the incident but denying responsibility.

The case is still ongoing, with no trial date yet set.
