In an unprecedented move, the Delhi High Court has recommended the termination of Aman Pratap Singh, a district judge in Dwarka, after a video of him standing and shouting during court proceedings circulated on social media. The High Court also withdrew his judicial duties. According to sources, the decision followed multiple complaints regarding his conduct and interactions with lawyers.

The full court met on September 13 and reviewed his overall behavior and work. Singh, who has been on probation since his appointment as an additional district judge in May last year, previously practiced law in Bhiwani, Haryana.

The Delhi High Court has taken the rare step of recommending the termination of Aman Pratap Singh, a district judge in Dwarka, following a viral video that showed him standing up from his chair and shouting during a court session. This incident has raised concerns about his professional demeanor and led to the High Court’s decision to revoke his judicial responsibilities.

The decision to terminate Singh was not solely based on the video. Sources indicate that there were multiple complaints—ranging from seven to eight—lodged by members of the Bar concerning his behavior and attitude towards lawyers. Additionally, there were several pending petitions requesting the transfer of cases from his court due to dissatisfaction with his handling of legal matters.

In light of these issues, the full court convened on September 13 to discuss his overall conduct, deciding that his probation, which had begun in May 2023, should be terminated. Singh received a "C" grade for his performance, which further reflected the concerns surrounding his judicial conduct.

Singh had been appointed as an additional district judge in Delhi after clearing the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Examinations. Before his appointment, he had been practicing as an advocate in Bhiwani district court in Haryana. His relatively short tenure in the judicial service, combined with the growing number of complaints, appears to have led the High Court to conclude that his services should be discontinued.

The decision to revoke his judicial duties was communicated in a formal letter from the Delhi High Court Registrar General to the Principal District and Sessions Judge (Southwest) in Dwarka courts. The letter directed that Singh’s judicial work be withdrawn immediately and informed the concerned authorities of the High Court's decision. Despite efforts to reach out to Singh's office for comments, his secretarial staff declined to make any statements on the matter.

This development highlights the judiciary's commitment to maintaining professional standards within its ranks, especially regarding the conduct of judges during court proceedings. The termination of a judge’s probation is a significant action and reflects the judiciary’s stance on ensuring that its members uphold the dignity of the court and maintain respectful relations with both lawyers and litigants.
