The Bombay High Court has emphasized the need to stop the growing trend of challenging film releases, particularly in reference to the movie *Emergency*, starring Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, and Shreyas Talpade.
The court instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to make a decision on the film's release by Wednesday, in response to a petition filed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
The film, which depicts the Emergency period under Indira Gandhi's rule in 1975, has faced objections from Sikh organizations due to concerns over its portrayal of the community.
Despite the CBFC citing representations that challenged the film's factual accuracy, the court noted that *Emergency* is a fictional work, not a documentary, and stressed the importance of upholding creative freedom.
The court refused CBFC’s request for additional time, asserting that the board must make a definitive decision.
The judges criticized the CBFC for indecisiveness and called for an end to delays, urging a stand on whether to approve or reject the film’s release.
