A 35-year-old woman and her 36-year-old partner have been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Aligarh court for the 2013 murder of her husband, Lekhraj Singh.
The additional district and sessions judge delivered the verdict after a decade-long trial, during which it was established that the woman, Kamlesh Devi, conspired with her lover, Rajesh Kumar, to kill Singh.
The court also approved Kamlesh's request to keep three of her four children with her in prison, citing the lack of family support.
The incident occurred in April 2013 when the duo allegedly shot Singh while he was asleep. Kamlesh and Rajesh had previously eloped in 2012, but Kamlesh returned to live with her husband after learning of his plans to sell their farmland. Following the crime, an FIR was filed, and both accused were arrested. Although they were later released on bail, they began living together and had four children.
After reviewing the evidence, the court sentenced both to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 each.
